Group discussion 11/02/2013 (coombe robbery - media madness)

In today's lesson we found out that Coombe had been robbed over the weekend by an anonymous individual. All the apple macs have been stolen along with our finished opening sequence and other edited footage, although thankfully the headphones were not touched. There are no suspects as of yet but luckily our brand new macs are on there way to us.
This has left us shocked and in question of the security in school. This catastrophe means we have to edit our opening sequence again but luckily we had some of our edited sequence backed up on another drive so thankfully we have some material to work with.

Here is an image of  us showing our emotions towards the disaster.

Group discussion 08/02/2013

In today's lesson Laura and I began to complete our title and credits sequence, we experimented with some font styles and designs that looked appealing. We also searched on the internet for some sound clips of birds that would also be placed over our title sequence, these would match the animation of the flock of birds shown on the screen also added with the name "Phoenix production's".

Rianna carried on editing our behind the scenes and backstage footage and finally completed it. We vaguely have discussed the plans for our soundtrack, although we have an idea of what types of music and sound effects were are going to use.

Showcase Feedback

Yesterday we gained some valuable feedback from our peers on our opening sequence so far. We now know what we need to work on and are happy that they understood the narrative and the opening sequence created tension.
Here is the feedback.

Editing 07/02/13 and Group Discussions

Today we carried on editing our behind the scenes footage and put the soundtrack onto it. We also included photos we had taken from the lessons. Now we need to fix some of the text we have put onto the clips before exporting them.
We also recieved some feedback from our peers, who pointed out the strengths and weaknesses in our opening sequence. This was very informative as it came from impartial perspecives: it made us see what we needed to improve the most. We also started creating our titles and soundtrack today.

Now we are nearing the end of editing our film we decided to move on to creating the behind the scene's and  out-takes footage video. We used final cut to add in all the clips and also added in some pictures and videos of us to make it clear who was in our production  company. Furthermore we downloaded a song which we added to the film, we felt it suited the clips very well as they were humours and up beat, just like the song.

This is the song that we used in our out-take and behind the scene footage film:

Editing 01/02/13

Today we made good progress in editing our opening sequence. We experienced some difficulty with the match on action of Heather walking from the kitchen to the hall way, however after much cutting and slowing down we achieved this.
We also managed to put on the CCTV camera effect onto the other clip of Heather in the kitchen, and looks realistic as we made the footage slightly blurred. Then we started to edit our behind the scenes footage too (after realising how little time we have left to finish the project), and tried to put text onto some of the shots. We started thinking about some of the music to put onto the behind the scenes footage, some thoughts were:

Editing Process so Far

So far our editing process has gone well: we have put together over a minute of footage and have used various tools on Final Cut Express to help us. One of our major challenges was created effective CCTV-looking footage, which we have put into black and white and included a flashing frame to create the most effective CCTV camera look.
Today we had to try and change one of our shots to look like it was CCTV: in order to do this we have had to change the shot to black and white and are in the process of adding the CCTV effect filter on Final Cut. We have tried to make the match on action as accurate as possible, and asked various people on their views
of the opening as we have edited it.
Today we asked 3 non media students so far of our progress, and received positive feedback: they understood what was happening and the sort of atmosphere we intended on creating.

Review Of Our Filming Day

On Saturday the 12th of January we filmed our opening sequence. It was a successful day, both of our actors were very co operative, as we tried to take as many shots as possible. During the day we made sure that all of the risks that could have happened on the day did not, however the lights did get very hot quite quickly.
We started to film all interior shots with Heather, who played the teenage girl at first, before going to film the shots of Nikolai in the car. We tried to make both characters' costumes correct, and made sure that we took some extra footage which we could edit to make a behind the scenes video. Overall our day was successful, and hopefully we took some successful shots which we will find useful when editing.

Costume Ideas

Whilst planning what our characters would look like, we decided on what clothing they should wear.
For the girl, we decided that typical, casual clothes that a teenage girl would wear would be appropriate.
For the male character, we decided on something along the lines of a parka, this would be able to disguise his face, and create a sense of enigma.
